Hypothesis: Are virtual Influencers (= / ≠ / ≈) Real human beings? 🤔

Recently I came across a very interesting article on Virtual Influencers.

A virtual influencer is a digital personality that posts on social media to build an audience of passionate fans, just like a human influencer; at least, that’s how it seems.

Earlier these virtual influencers were created using computer-generated imagery (CGI) technology, meaning these avatars were entirely controlled by humans in graphic design and content development, their actions and behaviours are entirely scripted.

However, now there has been a shift in technology from CGI to AI.

AI-powered virtual influencers like Lil Miquela and Lu are created using the same technologies [(3D) rendering software and motion capture] that make the latest Hollywood blockbusters or mega-hit video games.

According to Peter Bentley, a professor of computer science at University College London in the U.K. “highly skilled professionals can use advanced motion capture and CGI to make virtual influencers look hyper-realistic, but deep learning, a sophisticated AI technique, is lowering the level of technical skill needed to produce a real-looking virtual influencer.”

Some virtual influencers have even been signed by talent agencies that typically represent human actors and artists.

As deep learning methods continue to advance at an accelerated pace, the ability to generate custom images through machine learning-generated imagery is becoming more accessible.

This streamlined process is making the production of virtual humans even more effortless, with the potential for anyone to soon be able to create their own virtual characters.

Tomorrow, with sophisticated AI visuals and behaviours, as well as marketing-savvy human handlers, virtual influencers may be completely indistinguishable from real people.

In the foreseeable future, AI influencers could utilize advanced technologies like natural language processing, image recognition, and speech recognition to gather user data, autonomously create posts, engage with the audience based on consumer sentiment, and continually enhance the interaction process through machine learning.

In fact, virtual influencers could become a primary way for us to engage with companies if we spend significant amounts of time in virtual environments,

👉 Outcome of the hypothesis
Virtual Influencers are (≈) approximately equal to Real human beings!
